My first 4WD, the start of 3 friends and 3 Pajero's

There is nothing more I love than getting as far away from it all as possible, and the Commodore just wasn't cutting it. After looking at lots of overpriced and under featured Hiluxes I started considering Pajeros and bought this very tidy unit for a little over 6 grand. I wanted a car I wouldn't loose any sleep over if it got a few dings or bush pinstripes, yet tough enough to get me almost anywhere. With 220,000 k's on the clock it had loose steering and left a cloud of smoke at every traffic light..... Lucky I am a mechanic! $50 worth of valve seals and gaskets and some adjustment of the steering box made it a dream to drive.

After a couple of months of feeling my way about with it, I made the commitment to keep it and changed all belts, hoses and fluids and any other service items and then it was on. Meanwhile, unbeknown to me, a good friend was also mulling over Hiluxes, I emailed him a photo of my purchase, and he had a sister vehicle within a month. We both went to Robe and did some sand driving to get used to the vehicles, and within the year we both tackled the Simpson Desert.

In 2 years we have travelled the Oodnadatta, Strezleki and Birdsville tracks, Coffin Bay and Lincoln National Parks, the Flinders Ranges a couple of times, Ngarkat National Park a couple of times, Little Desert national Park, just because we wanted to see where that road went from Mt Shaugh.

Another friend was so impressed by the performance of our cars he went out and bought yet another sister Pajero (lucky they are all different colours) Recently we have done goog's track, then nicked up to the William Creek Hotel  for a beer ,then back home through some good country in the Flinders.

The three of them are between 1991 and 1995, stock standard, with a collective 660,00km on them. With all our trips we have changed 3 flat tyres, a coolant drain tap o ring and a heater hose.

What have I started?, A passenger on our last trip has now bought a 2003 Pajero. Thats vehicle #4! Look out for a Mitsubishi congo line coming your way, Meanwhile I will try not to bring it to the attention of the car company I work for.
