Great Central Road

This is the main route linking Western Australia and the Red Centre. It is a track well travelled by all forms of vehicles. Though graded often it still remains a sandy track weaving through remote yet spectacular desert country.

Trailers and caravans may be towed, though conditions vary (check first). You will pass through Aboriginal communities where it is required to hold a valid transit permit. There are very few facilities.

·         Best travelled: April to September.

·         Start and Finish point: Laverton - Yulara.

·         Total distance: 1126km.

·         Approx time to cover: 3 days.

·         Longest distance between fuel supplies: Tjukayirla Roadhouse to Warburton (249km).

·         Availability of other supplies: Laverton, Cosmo Newberry, Tjukayirla, Warburton Roadhouse, Docker River and Yulara.

·         Rating: Medium to hard.
