The Tanami is a relatively safe introductory drive to remote outback travel as the route is well serviced with fuel stops, emergency help and facilities close at hand. There are a few camping sites but all camping is prohibited in the Tanami Desert Wildlife reserve.
·         Best travelled: March to October.
·         Start and Finish point: Halls Creek – Alice Spring.
·         Total distance: 1055km.
·         Approx time to cover: 2 days.
·         Longest distance between fuel supplies: Yuendumu to Rabbit Flat (314km). (note: Rabbit Flat opening hours are sporadic), then its 597km to Billiluna.
·         Availability of other supplies: Alice Springs, Halls Creek, Billiluna, Rabbit Flat Roadhouse, Yuendumu, Tilmouth Well Roadhouse.
·         Rating: Easy.
