Old Ghan Railway

This trip follows the Old Ghan Railway Line which was opened in 1929 to Link Adelaide and Alice Springs. A diversion that should not be missed is The Chamber’s Pillar; a sandstone monolith rising 50m above the surrounding plain, formed by millions of years of wind and rain erosion.  Towing a trailer is not recommended.

 

·         Best travelled: April to September

·         Start and Finish point: Alice Springs- Finke.

·         Total distance: 243km.

·         Approx time to cover:  At least 3 days

·         Longest distance between fuel supplies: Titjikala to Finke (127km)

·         Availability of other supplies: Alice Springs, Maryvale, Titjikala, Finke.

·         Rating: Hard
