Travelling South

We left Broome, Lorraine crying, sobbing, kicking and screaming, but life goes on!!!!! Get over Lorraine. From Broome to Port Headland was a trip of just on 600kls, so we couldn’t tarry around. The country is very different, very few trees, lots of termite houses, dead stock on the side of the road. Port Headland is a very industrial town, exports of Iron Ore, salt, yes salt. Big ships moving in and out of the port. The caravan park was very nice, very crowded, and we were lucky to be able to get in, there was only 2 sights...

Busselton to Apollo Bay

Busselton to Apollo Bay Our last night in Busselton, Geoff and Ann arrived, a great surprise, so that evening was spent sampling some fine ales, some finer wines, good food and great conversation. Saturday morning we had breakfast with them and then said our good byes, really great catching up with them. From Busselton we drove to Walpole, unfortunately the weather was against us, heavy rain and a bit of wind made conditions uncomfortable, so unfortunately we missed seeing some of the bigger trees of the south west. We arrived at Walpole, coalmine beach caravan park, managed...

Coral Bay to Busselton

Coral Bay, south Friday saw us leave Coral Bay for Carnarvan, a big thank you to Kelly and Jeff for their great hospitality. Entering Carnarvan we saw the first of many orchards, bananas, mango’s, vege gardens to name but a few, lovely lush and green. The caravan park seemed to cater well to the older set, still very comfortable, and still long walk to brush your teeth. Once settled in, we ventured into Carnarvan township, very extensive, and we duly topped up our larder. We walked the one mile jetty, which unfortunately had a fire a few...

Darwin to Broome

We left Darwin, sadly on Monday 4th, this was a place that we truly loved, and the locals were so friendly and helpful. So off down the Stuart Highway, and a left hand turn onto the Arnhem Highway, enroute to Jabiru in Kakadu National Park. I swear every time we went over a bridge or a causeway, Loz would see Crocodiles, heaps of them, I never saw a one. We did notice that there was a lot of swamp land around, and that the highway was built up. We arrived in Jabiru, and booked into the Orara Caravan Park,...

Mataranka to Darwin

Wednesday 15th we departed Mataranka, a 400kl drive up to Batchelor, the entrance to Litchfield National Park. Batchelor is a small little town, off the main highway, very clean and well presented. The caravan park clean and tidy also We spent Wednesday, resting and having a look around town, the park has a great little restaurant, so we had tea there that night Thursday saw us off into the National Park. Now Aggs has a fascination with these termite mounds, so the first thing we saw, was HUGE termite mounds, termite mounds made by different types of termites,...

To Mataranka

We arrived Monday 6thApril, found the Yulara Ayres Site Caravan Park and set the van up. We then went for a drive to Uluru. Now even though we had seen this monolith driving to Yulara, one does not really realize the hugeness ( if there is such a word) of this rock, its BIG. We duly paid our fee we continued into the park, the ‘rock’ always in our view. Now I must be excused for my ignorance, but, there was a bonus for us, for on our right hand side, as we were getting closer to Uluru, we saw...

Alice Springs

Well after 7 days, we finally broke the anchor chain in Mt Isa, it was extremely interesting Our first stop was Camooweal, just for some diesel, we thought as it had only taken us 2 hours, and from what we saw, there was not too much more to see. We did have a chat with a couple who were in a 5th wheeler, and did say that we thought we would stop at Barkly Homestead Roadhouse. Their retort was, “watch your arms and legs”, they then explained how expensive it was. Undeterred, your intrepid adventurers bumped over the...

Mt Isa

We arrived Mt Isa on probably the hottest day of the year,(Monday 23rd March) everything was melting, and that means us as well. The park is very nice and there are some BIG motorhomes here, two to mention are, a semi trailer set up, built in the US and bought out here, its pulled by a BIG kenworth. The trailer is called “toy house” and the truck is called the “toy hauler” a really nice set up. They are staying in Isa for about 6 months. The other set up is a fully rebuilt Denning bus, with a trailer, which...
