Farqhuar Park camping ground
This place is at the 2nd outlet of the Manning River near Old Bar. When the inlet is open to the sea, entry is via the beach Manning Point; about a twenty minute drive up the beach at Low Tide, usually inaccessible at High Tide. When the inlet is closed to the sea, entry is also available via the beach from near Mud Bishops at Old Bar. It is a beautiful camping spot in a small rainforest type brush immediately behind the sand dunes on the banks of the Manning River. Described as a primitive camping ground, it has pit toilets, tables & chairs, B-B-Q fire places, 2 rain water tanks of roofs over tables, fire wood delivered and rubbish removed from site by a Ranger when he collects camping fees @ $10 per night throughout the year except for Christmas holidays and Easter, when demand for sites is high and the fees double for these two periods.
Beach Permits must be obtained and displayed on vehicles which access the beach. These are available from Tourist Info at Taree, Manning Point Store, Caravan Park at Old Bar, Taree Council and the Ranger who collects the fees. Regular Patrols are made by Coucil Rangers on the beach and in the camp grounds issuing fines to any vehicle which is not displaying beach permits.
To drive on this beach, a single 4WD tyres should be deflated to 18-20psi - Loaded and towing trailer 16-18psi - fully loaded and towing a camper 14-16psi.
No re-inflation readily available at Old Bar, Shell Servo on other side of town heading towards Taree. Re-Inflation available at Manning Point Shop for a gold coin payment.
This is usually a quite camp, and hooliganism/loutish behaviour isn't tolerated by regular campers to this site, likewise it is an unwritten but respected law of this site
NO RADIOS or MUSIC.
It is a very children friendly and safe site, with children wandering throughout the camp, and all regular campers usually knowing which camp they are from and keeping an eye out for them.
Plenty of birdlife, sea eagles, magpies, crows, kingfishers, kookaburras, pelicans, swans, numerous migrating sea birds including little terns. The Little Terns have fenced off breeding sites on the beach. Visits into camps are often made by goanna's.
Good Beach fishing on the extended stretch and beach areas, River fishing, Boats are often launched off the beach area to go outside and can easily be launched at numerous locations in the camping area for the river. Ensure you get to know or find out the ever changing channels to get from the main river into the river bank near camp, as there is only one channel in and this is very shallow at low tide. Unfortunately my photo's are too large to download, I will try to work something out and maybe attache some at a later date
