Tuesday 10th August left Pine Creek for Katherine. Spent Wednesday there and we had a lazy day whilst our travel companions visited Katherine Gorge and other attractions. We didn't go this time as seen all the area previously. Managed to vote and get a good shop done.

Left Katherine on Thursday morning and headed to our planned camp site at Timber Creek. Unfortunately the national park site was full so we had to then camp at the Timber Creek caravan Park. Nice spot with plenty of shade. Next day off to Policemans Point to catch the elusive Barra. Damm, find out we could have free camped there. Right above the Victoria River with great river views. Well one to remember next time we pass through this way. Never guess we didn't catch that barra but we gave it a good try. Like the say a bad days fishing is better that a good day at work.

Friday off to free camp at Saddle Creek rest area which is only 70klms from WA border. Had to get in early as this is a popular spot. Plan is to set up our TV for the Bronco's game and cook up a big stew as we cannot take any fruit and vegs over the border. Phil, Barb, Baz and Denise are all in awe of the scenery we pass through during our travels this day. We are now seeing the ranges and red escarpments which are quite spectacular against the green vegetation. Because of the late rains the grass is very green for this time of the year. Made our travel very enjoyable.

Next day the pressure is on as Jenny has told everyone that they have to make an early start as she wants to get to the Kununurra Markets for fruit and vegs. I was having a giggle as I was the only one who realised we could leave camp and get to Kununurra at the same time due to the time zone difference of an hour and a half. When on the road I informed every one we would arrive at the time we left which was before the markets started.

Kununurra is one of our favorite towns with plenty to do and see. Sunday 15th we are off to Wyndham to catch the sunset at Five Rivers Lookout. Took the old gravel road up so we visited Black Rock Falls and saw more scenic countryside. The sunset was spectacular as usual as we had beer and champagne with the chicken meal organised for that night. What did spoil things a little was all the smoke from numerous bush fires. But the fires did look like chains of fairy lights in the ranges as we drove back to Kununurra that night.

Monday we did some local sightseeing down to Ivanhoe Crossing, visited a shop make rock jewelery and on to the Hoochery to taste the local rum. Nice but expensive. That night we went for a cruise on the Ord on the BBQ Boat at sunset. What a great night. The scenery was great the sunset beautiful and the food plentiful and good. Made a great experience which will be remembered for a long time. Highly recommend this cruise.

Stan and Baz went off to the supermarket (a local fishing hole) to catch that elusive barra. Again they had no luck but had some 4WD adventure getting there and back. Afternoon spent visiting Zebra Rock. Another place the make jewelery out of this unique rock. Watch how the stone was polished and shaped. Enjoyable and easy day. Jenny and I then went to visit Rob and Maxine who we knew from our previous visit to Kununurra.

Wednesday 18th August isw our last day in Kununurra. We all went off to view Lake Argyle (Ord River Dam) and take our usual thousand pics. This is an amazing body of water. Had a sausage sizzle under the shady trees of the park next to the river. That night we treated ourselves out to dinner at the Pump House restaurant. This is the original pump house for the Ord River irrigation scheme. Water is now gravity fed for flood irrigation. Well the food here was superb and we highly recommend this place if you visit Kununurra. The perfect finish to our visit before we head towards Derby.

Nissan Patrol Jen and myself like to travel the outback. In 2006 we spent 8 months on an around Australia trip. We enjoyed it that much we ended up working in the Kimberly for 2 years. We ran Imintji Store on the Gibb River Road. Hard work but very enjoyable.
