Surfing & Fishing the South Coast

Friday. Day 7. Ok, two days to go. We’re heading back to the coast today, to do some surfing and fishing. The storm front that blew us off the beach earlier in the week has broken up. After leaving Goulburn we take a winding route through the Southern Highlands via Bundenoon, Moss Vale, Fitzroy Falls and the Kangaroo Valley. This would have to be one of the best drives in southern NSW. We come out at Berry and make our way to Seven Mile Beach....

To Hill End

Wednesday. Day 5. Well, we’ve filled the Pajero up with sand and covered it in mud, and most of the time it’s been raining. But our next destination will be a lot drier. We’re heading south-west to the old gold rush town of Hill End. We’re not looking for gold dust, just dust. But before that we need coffee and diesel, so that’s what we do when we get to Scone, our first stop today. The boys check out the surf shop (yes, the surf shop) and we set up our route on the satnav. It’s a clear day. We look...

Exploring Barrington Tops

Monday. Day 3. We’ve kicked off our 4WD trip with a day on a storm-swept beach. So what can the elements throw at us now? Quite a lot, it turns out. By Monday morning the storm is hammering the whole NSW coast and the forecast is rain followed by more rain. The plan had been another day on the beach, but that’s out. So we’re heading inland to our next destination, the Barrington Tops. People rave about this beautiful, World Heritage-listed area only 320km from Sydney, but we’ve never been there. We let the satnav take over today. It’s easy...

My family meets the Pajero

We’re water people. We know a lot about boats but not all that much about cars. And until a few weeks ago, the only off-road driving we’d ever done was parking on our front lawn. So what are we doing on a 4WD website? Well, Mitsubishi were looking for a family like us – 4WD novices. They said we’d like you to take the new model Pajero away for a week on a holiday. Then write about what you think of it – the car and the experience. The car would be the top of the range Exceed,...
