2000 to 2001 - Small test trips
When we first bought the Pajero, may mates ribbed and knocked us for not buying a real 4wd. So I asked the, "what is a real 4wd". The Pajero is 4wd, isn't it ?
To some, a real 4wd is a Landcruiser or Patrol, but why buy such a big vehicle if you don't need to. The Pajero fitted us perfectly and with no kids (yet), we didn't need the excess room of the larger 4wd vehicles. The Pajero was also a very simple vehicle to self-service and maintain, and easy to fault find. I had real fun taking the Pajero, from stock to mildly modified. It was a shame to have to sell it in 2007, but 3 kids just didn't fit.
After buying the Paj, we took the opportunity whenever possible, to take time off and experience the outdoors first hand. Having never really owned a 4wd which enabled me to do such trips, I was keen to test out, not only the Pajero's limits, but also my own.
Trips which we did included:
Lithgow - Lost City.
Dunns Swamp.
Lithgow - Lake Lyell.
Hill End and Sofala.
Menindee.
These places surely gave us a true appreciation of what a great area we live in and the mighty Paj gave us the opportunity to see it all. I loved taking the Pajero to places where only 'proper 4wd could get to' and enjoyed watching the faces of these experts, when with careful driving and clean lines, the Pajero matched them almost everytime.
