Location: Namadgi National Park, Brindabella Ranges, Canberra
The day started with meeting up with some local & interstate friends & their families, who were brave enough to camp at the Cotter Campground, near the Cotter Dam bridge. The overnight temperature dropped to around 2 degrees & the morning temperature wasn’t much better. We stood around the campfire & drinking coffee, waiting for everyone to arrive. The vehicle total before we headed off was 12 Tritons, 1 Pajero & a Hilux.
Around 9.30am, we headed along Brindabella Road into the Namadgi National Park, over Flea Creek Crossing, which about 2 foot deep, then we turned right onto Two Sticks Road. We followed Two Sticks road til we came to the Dingi Dingi fire trail. This brought us to Webbs Ridge Trail and turning left, we followed Webbs Ridge trail til we came upon the Powerlines Trail, which we thought would be a great photo opportunity as there was quite a bit of snow at the top of the hill on the Powerlines trail.
Once we'd had a play in the snow & all the kids had thrown their fair share of snow balls, we headed off along Webbs Ridge trail and came across a trail that headed up the side of a mountain, which was really steep. Some of the guys decided to test out their 4wd's, which was also a great photo opportunity & some video footage was taken as well.
The track took the guys up the mountain, across the top & back around onto Webbs Ridge trail, where we all met up again & continued on our way to McIntyre’s Hut.
We turned left onto Waterfall trail, which was a very steep & rocky decline down to McIntyre’s Hut, which is located on the Goodradigbee River.
We stopped around 12.30pm for a BBQ lunch & a wander around down near the river. Once everyone had eaten plenty & had a good rest, we headed back out from McIntyre’s Hut, turning right onto Waterfall trail then right onto Webbs Ridge trail, back past the Powerlines trail. We followed Webbs Ridge trail all the way to the end, which is another campground, again along the Goodradigbee River. We all stayed & chatted for a while & took some photos of the group & let the kids have a play. By this stage the sun was starting to go down & we didn’t have much light left so after about 20 minutes we headed out along Gentle Annie trail back towards Brindabella Road.
Turning right onto Brindabella Road had almost brought us to the end of our trip & heading home, so we decided over the UHF radios that we would stop half way back & say our goodbyes as some of the group had to drive back to Sydney & Wollongong. Following Brindabella road past Mount Franklin road & Two Sticks road, and up alongside Bullock Paddock Road took some of the group along Uriarra road home, northside & the others turned left & the Uriarra Homestead which brought them back to the Cotter Campground
All in all, it was a fantastic day with some excellent scenery, some great laughs & very good company from the entire group. I would have to say that having the Brindabella Ranges, and the entire Namadgi National Park as my playground, being a Canberra local, is the greatest feeling & is certainly worth the effort to get out in the breathtaking counrtyside & have fun.
