Vic high country
It had been a few years since selling my hilux and a thougt it was time to get back into 4x4 trips.being a regular trail bike rider i love being in the bush.i bought a paj off a mate,83 turbo diesel swb.i`ve giving it a working over, raised suspension,GQ patrol sunraisers, power steer, uhf,cd,spoties and LSD still to be fitted.got it rego`d and on the road.this was the first `test` trip away.my girlfriend lainey and i packed paj, left tarwin lower early morning heading for thomson dam wall.morning smoko and photos there and we where off again down into merrington flats for a look.i used to camp there years ago so i had to have a look.then back onto the main track through to aberfeldy, woods point pub for lunch.up to mansfield for a overnight stop.lainey was happy to see the end of gravel roads(ha ha more to come!)next day a drive around mt sterling, howqua hut, craigs hut that had been rebuilt.low cloud ment there was no veiw, bugger.up to mt buller to see all the tradies flat out getting stuff done before the snow season.it was freezing there and paj`s heater was struggling(fixed now).a trip down into tobacco flats to check the fire damage to the campsite, its a regular camp spot for a few of us over easter.it all looks good there now, recovering well.was getting late in the day so it was the quick way home on the blacktop.lainey was much happier on the smooth road!!was a good trip for paj`s first outting.dodgey heater and a slow leak in a tyre were the only problems.turbo power was ok(big exhaust to come)and fuel econemy was good.i havnt owned a diesel for 15yrs so the fuel price is a shock now.looking forward to more trips when the weather warms up.thinking murry-sunset before it gets to hot.
