Bowen - Windorah - Birdsville & Home
We though we would test our newly purchased secondhand Pajero out by taking in out west for a drive.
We left Bowen and traveled to Windorah via the dinosaur trail through Hughenden and then onto Longreach, Stonehedge then Jundah.
At Windorah we picked up a couple of hitch hikers (our daughter & grandaughter) and drove out to the Windorah sand dunes for the day, we would also like to thank a local character Sandy for taking us up in his plane and showing us Windorah (coopers creek & the channel country).
The next day we drove to Birdsville via Betoota (don't try and get a beer here), photo shoot at the Sth Aus & Qld border then into town.
After visiting the Birdsville court house as guests we traveled out and up to the top of Big Red (nice view), we then had a meal at the Birdsville pub and took a photo of there flag on the roof.
On our way back we droped off our hitch hikers at the Windorah Police Station and traveled onto Barcaldine to look at the picture of the tree of knowledge. (no tree in site)
After viewing all that knowledge we called into the Blue Heeler Pub for a cold beer (kynuna) then whilst traveling to Mckinlay the sky actualy looked as if we would get rain so we took a photo.
At McKinlay we called in and said hello to Paul at the Walkabout Creek Hotel (Croc Dundee), we carried onto Richmond and back to Bowen via the Flinders Highway.
We had a great time over a three week stint traveling over 5500kms and the only misshap we had was breaking our back window 20kms out of Birdsville, we were told later that it is a good idea to tape up this window if you are towing a trailer.
Hope you like our story and look forward to our next adventure.
