Fraser Island

Before heading off to cross the Simpson we headed to Fraser Island to test the Pajero on the sand. My previous 4WDs were large modified machines that would go anywhere and I needed to know how the independent suspension and traction control handled the conditions. As a member of the local 4WD club I like to go and play so I had a 50mm lift with Poly Air bags fitted to gain a little more ground clearance. The sand on Fraser was no problem with the ASC & traction control rarely activating until we were climbing off the beach to Cathedral and the two right wheels were spinning on the sand while the left wheels had traction on the boards. The dash indicators lit up up like a christmas tree with flashing lights and the vehicle stopped. I switched off the ASC and we proceeded without further drama. Lesson learned. The following months were spent planning the trip to Ayers Rock and preparing the vehicle.

Geoff Horsley

Mitsubishi Pajero Hi, my name is Geoff and my Pajero is my third 4WD and it is a great touring vehicle. Earlier this year I asked my wife if she would like to drive out to see Ayers Rock and the Olgas. When she agreed I said "Great, let's go via the Simpson Desert"
