Double crossing of Australia by 4WD
Our sponsors said if you do it the monies good. Cross Oz from Byron Bay in NSW to Steep Point in WA via the Simpson and the Gunbarel then come back in less than 7 days. An usupported double crossing from the most easterly to the most westerly point in the staighest line. We did it in 6 days 3 hours and 56 minutes. As you can see from the photo we were nice and clean at the start. The thing that really was imbedded in my mind was the help and generosity that Aussies right across this country gave us. From a couple of young blokes on the Gunbarrel that slung us 20 bucks to those staunchest of outback characters at Carnegie station that stayed up for fuel and a feed and the tour operator that was there that donated $500 towards our cause. The young girl at the Kulgera roadhouse that stayed up till 2 am to keep a couple of drums of diesel because we were running late the Mobil servo at Birdsville for doing the same on both legs of the trip, although it was tempting to have a beer in the pub with the owner on the way back.
