Last week it rained and closed the Stres and the Oodnadatta.
Three weeks before we start our trip
We are at the end stages of planning our trip to the centre. The 4wd has had it's service, the camp gear is all checked and the boss has been notified that I am off on 15 December.
At the moment I am doing the last repairs to the Jayco Finch we are going to tow with us. The Jayco has been our trusted home on many a tour and this will perhaps be its biggest test yet. So far, apart from a 70km stretch of dirt in the Victorian alps, its only ever traveled on the black top. This trip will see it travel some of the roughest and most desolate tracks of our country.
Weather is going to play a big part in the parts of the centre and north we will be able to access. Every day for the last week I have been checking the road closures websites of SA, the NT and NSW to see if the tracks we are hoping to travel have been affected by rain. Unfortunately, all of them have. Fingers crossed they will all be clear for us when we get there around Christmas.
Our trip will take us from Sydney to Broken Hill via Dubbo. From Broken Hill we will head for the corner country, down to Lyndhurst via the Stres, up to William Creek and then onto Cooper Pedy. Once we are on the Stewart, it will be straight up the middle to Darwin with stopoffs to the Rock, Kakadu and Litchfield. Our way back will be down to Tennant Creek, hard left to the Queensland coast and homeward bound to Sydney. I cannot wait.
Your welcome to join us to share our adventure. Look forward to your comments as we go.
Cheers and see you out there.
