Mt Buller
As Victoria's most accessible alpine resort, Mt Buller is only 248 kilometres (approximately 3.5 hours) from Melbourne via either the Hume Highway or the Melba Highway through the Yarra Valley. With Mount Buller’s close proximity to Melbourne, heading over for a day trip is a viable plan.
While Mt Buller is home to one of Australia’s most popular ski resorts in the winter, during summer months you can still explore every inch of Buller's stunning scenery. Head off on foot on hiking trails, saddle up and join a tour with local horsemen, or make your way to Craig's Hut, Bindaree Falls and Sheepyard Flat on marked 4WD tracks.
In the snow season you can tackle Mount Buller's longest run at 2.5 kilometres, with an average snow cover of one to two metres.
Handy hint for all drivers: When driving to Buller there is no petrol available past Mansfield.
