Phillip Island
Phillip Island
About an hour and a half drive from the Melbourne CBD, Phillip Island is a veritable wonderland for both foreign and organic tourists alike.
For those fauna lovers; see koalas and waterbirds in the wild at Rhyll and watch the much loved ‘little penguins’ (that used to be known as fairy penguins) waddle home at dusk on Summerland Beach – a truly magical site, and a Phillip Island must see, but don’t forget to rug up in winter months!
For a different kind of wild life, visit the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, home to the Australian Motor Cycle Grand Prix and V8 Supercar 500. For petrol heads, you can actually race around a scaled replica of the track in some speedy go carts located next to the real course.
To get here take a car ferry from Stony Point to Cowes, the island’s main town. Or arrive in the gateway of San Remo – also a fishing and pelican haven- via suspension bridge.
This island paradise is busiest through the summer months, with numerous great surf beaches of differing ferocity to cater to the whole family.
